Sunflower Flax Bread

Sunflower Flax Bread

(Use organic ingredients whenever possible).

This hearty sunflower bread will help you rise-and-shine to greet the day. Made with whole grains and sunflower seeds, this bread is a good source of fiber and vitamin E, and contains disease-fighting phytosterols. It also packs a triple-punch of healthy polyunsaturated fats from the sunflower seeds, milled flax, and flax oil. It is delicious fresh out of the pan or toasted until golden.

 

2 1/2 cups 100% whole wheat flour

2 tsp. yeast

1 egg

1 cup water

1/4 cup raw or brown sugar

1 tsp. sea salt

1 Tbsp. grapeseed, or other cooking oil

2 Tbsp. Willow Creek Organic Flax Oil  

1/2 cup Willow Creek Organic Milled Brown or Milled Golden Flax

1/2 cup Willow Creek Organic Sunflour*  

1/4 cup Willow Creek Organic Sunflower Seeds

 

*for 1/2 cup sunflour, grind 3/4 cup sunflower seeds to a smooth consistency.

 

*Cooking times can vary based on the batch size. 

Blend ingredients manually then knead dough or place ingredients in bread machine and set cycle on dough.  When complete, remove dough to a lightly floured countertop.

Preheat oven to 350°.  Lightly grease 8.5 x4.5 loaf pan.  Shape dough to fit pan, cover with towel and let rise for at 1 1/2 hours. 

Bake 40 minutes, remove from pan and let cool.
